For Government

Fire prevention at property and settlement level, for civil protection, regions and municipalities

The Problem

175,759

hectares burned in 2023 (EFFIS)

96,610

hectares in the Evros fire, 2023 (EFFIS)

1,757

burnt areas mapped 2016–2026 (EFFIS)

The property fire-protection regulation (ΦΕΚ Β' 3475/2023) covers every building inside or within 300 m of forest, forest land or grassland. To apply it, public bodies need to know which buildings are in scope, where exposure is highest, and where inspections and letters to owners should start.

The PYROSIM Solution

Inventory of buildings within 300 m

Every building near forest, with its distance and an indicative risk class, as GIS layers per settlement

Property check and engineer data

For citizens and engineers applying the regulation, covering criteria 5.1 to 5.6 of the official form

Fire-weather climatology (FWI)

Days of extreme fire weather per area from ERA5, for prevention planning

Historical fire replays

Exercise scenarios with real ERA5 weather, compared with the EFFIS perimeter

Hindcast: Evros 2023

The 2023 Evros fire replayed with real ERA5 weather and compared with the Copernicus EMS burnt-area maps.
